Spoke too soon

Just letting you know that we are ok. Friday there was another storm, and this time we ended up with the power out. It only lasted for 7 hours here, but my parents went 4 days. Some people are STILL without power at this writing. Internet just come back on, and it is acting very spoofy. I think we were really lucky.

A storm of words

Well, I was going to make this post about Lil Bit's Dr. Appointment. Will touch on that briefly after I talk about the storm.

We here at the Cloud Nine are well, and safe. Even though I joke that we are on prime tornado property, the worse we got was flickering lights, and part of the dead tree in back down.

If you have no clue what I am talking about, we are having severe storms in this area. Part of the Airport has caved in, Down Town St. Louis has power out, Tractor trailers are on their sides on the freeways. My In-Laws, and Brother in law have their power out. Neither are more than a few miles from us, in different towns.

When we turned off the electronics, and got out the candles, Lil bit got nervous. After the worse of the storm had passed, we went into the garage, and opened up the door to watch the lightning in the distance. Once I figured she wanted her lawn chair, Lil bit settled down.

Ok, with that off my chest, Lil Bit's appointment:
She is growing like a weed, and got her shots.
The doctor asked how many words Little bit knew, and I honestly did not know how many. I guessed at 20, and he said that was very good.

After I got home, and started writing down words, this is what I got:

Mom, Dada, Baby, Kitty, Dog, Down, No, Yeah, Cookie, Cheese, D Dog (hot dog), Hi, Pretty, Ducky, E-I-E-I-O (her favorite song).

She also started calling for one of our cats when we did today.. So, that brings us up to 16 I can think of. She also meows (imitates the cats) and howls (that would be because of her Dad). I thank she is doing well.

I do want to say her diet isn't as bad as her vocabulary suggests. She only gets cookies on occasion, and hotdogs every once in awhile. Interesting that she picks THEM to talk about. Cheese is her favorite food, however, and she will open the lunch meat drawer every time the refrigirator door is open, and hand me cheese, saying the word.

Well, I am going to get Lil bit ready for bed, you all have a good night.

Random Stuff

1) Forgot to tell you all: When Lil Bit and I went to the parade, we saw shriners dressed in kilts. My husband wears kilts for Ren Faires, so I approached one of the gentalmen later to get a look at his socks. They were lovely argile socks, but I don't think the hubby would need such a pair for renaissance Reenacting. While approaching him to get a look at his socks, the gentalman got quite flustered, and was like "as long as what you are looking at is the socks". Hubby says I should have bluntly told him that my husband has three kilts, and if I wanted to look up one, I didn't have to stalk strangers.

2) Lil bit and I went to a large chain toy store with a friend. I should have known better. I couldn't help myself, and bought Lil Bit a swing to go on the frame outside(made for a porch swing). Lil Bit was VERY happy with the purchase, once we got it up, and she realized what it was for.

3) There is a Jack Russell terrier that has been going on our walks with us some evenings. She meets us at the corner, and walks about half way around the block with us. I kind of feel sad that she is craving a walk that bad, she had to adopt strangers.

4) Lil Bit's cardigan is STALLED. I procrastinated when I got to the intarsia. I finally got up the nerve to start it today. When I got to it, could not find the instructions anywhere. *sigh*

5) Two gentlemen stopped me today on our walk, and asked for directions. They were obviously confused so I offered to map quest it for them. Big problem, I don't have a printer. I invited him in, but was nervous about it, he laughed and flashed a badge, saying he was a off duty cop. This made me even MORE nervous, because it meant he was either a cop or a weirdo. Then again, Hubby is a rather large man with plenty of security training. If someone is casing me on my walk, I would rather them see who I am married to. (when did I get this jaded?)

Well, that is all I can think of for today. Hopeful, I will get batteries soon, and can show you pictures.

Parade

Lil Bit, friends and I went to a local homecoming parade today. Sorry, no pics, I forgot the camera. Can I use the fact that there were PLENTY babies around her age there, and I saw no cameras? I didn't think so .*sigh*

Lil Bit was scared of the sirens, but liked anything to do with music. I letter her have two suckers, and got her lots of beads to play with, then she "won" a blow up hammer toy at a choose a duck game. All in all a pretty good day.

Could I have been bored?

I haven't gotten much work done on my current projects. I just have NOT been wanting to knit. I read A lot on knitting, spending a good hour or two on blogs and web lists. So it wasn't knitting itself that was boring me. So I took a good hard look at my projects. Two mindless easy projects, the type I say that I love. A summer tote bag for mom (stripes done in a round tube) and a pair of slippers done in the same pattern before, but with absolutely NO stitch definition this time... Might as well sew them out of black faux fur. Could I be bored??

Enter a cardigan for Lil Bit: A paintbox Kit fom The Sassy Skein. The pattern is #1051 A Star is Born http://www.sassyskein.com/catalogofsassyskeinknits.html (first one on the list)
I am not usually fond of this many clashing colors, but so far it is knitting up kind of nice. I am almost finished with the checkerboard bottom, and even though I am sitting there cursing the fair isle, I AM knitting it, and it is holding my attention. I do like the yarn, it reminds me of knitting with embroidery floss (no, I have never tried that, sounds like a very expensive experiment.) I also like the fact that the sweater is knit in one piece in the flat up to the arms.

I am knitting a 2T, and it seems on gauge. It also seems HUGE. Can someone tell me if 2T is after size 24 months, or if it is the same thing? Just wondering. Lil Bit is only in 18 month size at the moment. Oh well, good thing about knitting for kids, is that the WILL grow into it.

Random bit

Hubby was teaching Lil bit to howl today. (he was the one to teach her to stick her tongue out, and to blow raspberries, so go figure.) She was doing a good job of it too, when in the middle of it, she said clear as day,"COOKIE" : The word is unsurprising, that was her third word, and now she knows dozens. Just how crystal clear she said it, and where in the world she got cookie from howling I will never know, lol.

Independence Day

Hey, yeah, I know what you are thinking from the title: Aren't you a little late?

I thought I would fill you in on my 4th of July, now that I am rested a bit, though.

I Worked till 3pm, and got comments on how "festive" I was. I guess I went a little over the top (sorry, no pics) But hey, any time I can wear a tye died T to work, I am going for it! So, I wore a red, white and blue tye dyed T, blue slacks, and a red, silver, and blue set of star shaped beads. Everyone else who "dressed out" for the holiday, just wore a red shirt and jeans.... *sigh* oh well.

After that, we had a friend over for a quiet evening. I cooked supper, and we shot off some of the kiddy type fireworks. Lil bit likes "Pop Snaps" but got scared of the other kinds. Kinda confused me. We had seen some kids setting off fireworks on our nightly walks, and she was amused then.

Here are a couple of pics of lil bit's 4th for your viewing pleasure:
